How to know when you have depression

Depression is a disease that affects the entire body. This changes the way we eat, sleep, and communicate our daily business. Depression is a disease that many people have trouble recognizing. Some people see it as lack willpower, personal weakness or laziness, but this is simply not true. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, which can be diagnosed, treated and overcome, but first the patient must recognize the problem. So how does a person know if they suffer from depression?

Changes in Behavior
Changes in behavior will affect the negative emotions you experience. Feeling uncomfortable in social situations is a common problem, you may have no desire to interact and spend more time alone and isolated. There may be a dramatic change in their eating habits or eating much more or much less. Loss of sexual desire is common and associated with anxiety in social and personal situations. Neglect of personal appearance and hygiene can occur, and neglect of cleanliness of your home. Since depression is manifested in lack of productivity, it is not uncommon for household chores, to suffer as a result.

Changes in Thinking

If you work or school, you may find it more difficult to concentrate and make decisions. Many of those suffering from depression report difficulties in processing information and problems with short-term memory. Being overly critical of your work and your ability, and excessive guilt are also common symptoms. In the extreme, a person can have self-destructive thoughts and tendencies.


Changes in Physicality
Negative emotions have a direct effect on the body. A person suffering from depression may suffer from chronic fatigue, even if they sleep more than usual. Insomnia is a common symptom. Failure to turn your thoughts results in person awake for hours unable to sleep, but can not do anything about it. Some sufferers that they sleep more than usual, sometimes spend most the day in bed, but still feel exhausted. Back pain, body aches and intense headaches are also often as a dramatic change in diet.

Treating the Problem

If you think you may be suffering from depression, it is vital that you talk to your doctor about this. Your doctor will be able to say that you are suffering from depression just by looking at you. Many people believe that treatment would be futile in their condition, but treatment is usually very effective and can help alleviate the condition.

There are many treatments that can help by advising medicines. For mild to moderate depression, counseling can be a very good method of treatment. Psychotherapy will include a discussion with a trained counselor about your situation. This may involve talking about your beliefs, your past and your relationships. Everything you talk about the wizard, of course, will be held in strictest confidence.
